I hate summer. I know, I shouldn’t say that. But summer in
England either consists of rain or a
sticky, dry, humid heat. I can handle it anywhere else, but when it gets hot
here it’s almost unbearable. Aside from the sweat patches that make me look
like I’ve doused my clothes in water, my makeup is a huge problem in the heat.
It’s either sliding off of my face, smudging, or caking up –
which obviously isn’t desirable, so here are my tips for keeping your face on
during the heat.
PRIME
Primers are your best friends when it comes
to makeup longevity. They’ll help keep it stay looking ‘fresh’ and keep it on
your face longer. Moisturiser, primer, makeup. Check.
KEEP IT LIGHT
If you want to avoid your makeup
caking then don’t cake it on. I need
a full coverage foundation so I use a mineral powder, which gives me the
coverage I need without being too heavy. However, BB creams and tinted
moisturisers will work just as well depending on your skin. Top tip:
make your own tinted moisturiser with some liquid foundation and a light
moisturiser. Equal parts will give you a medium coverage, so tweak to your
requirements.
LIQUIDISE
Grab yourself a waterproof liquid liner
and ditch the kohl pencil for a while. The flick will never go out of
fashion, and is much less likely to smudge than your beloved pencil. Top
tip: a thin line of dark liquid liner over the lash line on your lid will
give the appearance of fuller, thicker lashes.
SWEATPROOF LASHES
Waterproof mascara is a necessity.
It may be a bit of a pain to remove, but at least it’ll stay in place for the
whole day – no panda eyes here! Top tip: to remove your waterproof
mascara apply some eye makeup remover to a face wipe and hold it over your
lashes for a few seconds before wiping. The combination of the wipe and makeup
remover will help budge that tough mascara with minimal drag.
GEL YOUR CHEEKS
Cream and gel blushers will last a
lot longer on your skin without the need to reapply frequently. Avoid mineral
oil based products though; they’ll clog up your pores. I use
Becca Beach Tint
so my blusher doesn’t end up around my jaw line.
BLOT IT
Blotting paper is great if you’re generally
prone to shine. A decent blotting paper will get rid of the shine without
smudging. I recently reviewed one
here.
Most importantly,
WEAR PROTECTION
Just because
you can’t see some of the damage the
sun is doing, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t protect your skin. Don’t be
scared of SPF! Top tip: face mists are great to help cool you
down during the heat and refresh your makeup. Pick up a mist such as Lancaster Sun Sport Multi Protection Express Mist, which contains SPF for added protection.
I hope these tips will help you now during our heat wave and
perhaps when you go on holiday too!
